We know planning a wedding can be stressful and exhausting. As wedding planners, we LIVE for it, but as a bride and/or groom, you’ll want to make sure you take a nice, long vacation when it’s over. Whether you choose to honeymoon the day after your wedding or to decompress for a few weeks first, just make sure you take one! We’ve checked out some of the places our prior newlyweds have ventured, imagined up our own dream vacations, and kept some notes on our own past travel experiences to bring you 10 of our favorite honeymoon destinations. The hardest part may be choosing just one. In no particular order, here’s our top picks:
Sicily has the perfect combination of beaches, history, food, and sights—what more could you ask for? We recommend visiting the countryside, which is home to smaller towns like Taormina, Agrigento, Siracusa, and Selinunte. You’ll be blown away by the romantic settings amidst the classical ruins that can typically be found in these areas.
Everyone knows Paris is one of the most amorous cities in the world, which makes it an obvious pick for your honeymoon. There’s so much to do and see; you’ll never get bored. Take a scenic boat ride along the Seine to the Eiffel Tower or Notre-Dame with a glass of wine and a small baguette to fortify you for this incredible experience.
Iceland’s modest capital is a great home base for your travels in this breathtaking country. Before heading out to explore its wild surroundings, immerse yourself in Reykjavik’s unique culture. Build up an appetite learning about ancient Vikings at one of their charming museums and then fill up on their locally sourced seafood focused cuisine!
After seeing the exotic scenery, majestic temples, and inspiring local villages, you will understand why Luang Prabang is one of Asia’s most magnificent cities. We suggest you visit the Kuang Si Falls, Elephant Camp, Pak Ou Caves, and the Royal Palace before departing. You won’t need a filter on any of your Instagram worthy pictures!
The Maldives has 1,192 islands for you and your lover to choose from—each with idyllic resorts and enjoyable activities that will make you dread the idea of returning home. You can spend your days surfing, snorkeling, diving, and boating; then treat yourselves to a slow evening sunset beach stroll and a relaxing couple’s massage.
Only an hour south of Lisbon, Comporta sits comfortably on a peninsula between the vast ocean and rich forest. Few people know about this secret sandy getaway, so you will be guaranteed a private and peaceful trip. There are many intriguing sites to see as well—The Troia Ruins and traditional fisherman’s dwellings are locals’ favorites.
The sites in Kyoto are simply spectacular. Choosing which picturesque attractions to visit makes this must see destination difficult in the best way. One of Kyoto’s most memorable structures, Kiyomizu-Dera, is a great place to start. There you’ll find the The Jushu Shrine “Love Stones” and Otowa Waterfall, a fitting beginning to your honeymoon. Make sure to spend a couple of nights in Gion Shirakawa, where you’ll get an authentic taste of Japan’s alluring culture.
For those of you looking to take a winter honeymoon, we definitely suggest you head to Zermatt, one of the world’s most legendary mountain resort villages. There are tons of adventures awaiting you in this car free utopia—skiing or snowboarding, hiking, helicopter rides, and witnessing incredible views of the Matterhorn.
Visiting the Highlands is like getting to jump into your favorite childhood fairy tale. The magnificent architecture and nearly untouched natural surroundings are unparalleled. If you’re like us, you’ll certainly want to visit the famous Loch Ness, which we’ve heard lives up to its reputation. If Nessy doesn’t scare you, you’ll enjoy the mysterious, yet romantic Scottish castles, like Dunvegan Castle, The Castle of Mey, and Skye Castle, to name just a few.
When you imagine Greece in your head, you are probably picturing the Parthenon or the Acropolis, but don’t forget the beautiful island of Santorini. Known for its white, charming domes, it sits along narrow lanes on a rocky hillside, just above the coast of the island. You can plan to spend time on the beach, in the water, wine tasting, or visiting some of the fascinating archaeological sites nearby. The sunsets and sunrises alone will make this trip worth your while.
We hope you enjoy your honeymoon, wherever you choose to go!
