Property and Location

Kennolyn Camp is situated on 300 acres of private property in Santa Cruz, California. Redwood trees dominate the entire property and provide an awe-inspiring backdrop for camp adventures. The property is secluded at the end of a four mile dead end road and borders Nisene Marks State Park, a 10,000 acre barrier against encroachment and development. And yet, for all this seclusion, we are not isolated. We are easily accessible from Highway 1 and we are less than a 90 minute drive from the East Bay and the entire Peninsula. When comparing camps, take into account the distance you will need to travel to achieve a true camp away from home experience. Go HERE to get directions to Kennolyn from your home and then compare that to other camps you are considering. Our location allows you to comfortably visit us for a tour ahead of your camper's stay and to participate in the drop off and pick up days where you will get a true sense of the Kennolyn experience. Click HERE to see our location on Google Earth.

There are two adjoining properties that make up Kennolyn Camps. Resident Camp is held at our StoneCreek Village property and is designed to represent an old western town complete with Lumber Company, Train Depot, Mayor's Office, and Lodge. Our facilities are top quality and, because our winter weather is so temperate, our office is located on our property all year long. Day Camp is located on our Hilltop Hacienda property.

Tradition

Since 1946, campers have grown up with the traditions that are important to a Kennolyn camp experience. From opening night's Spaghetti Dinner to the staff serenade on the final night, from a song before the evening meal is served to the three bugle calls that mark the close of each day, traditions make memories. We live in a fast paced world and although kids today love the pace and energy of modern life, it is inspiring to see them embrace traditions that have a 63 year history. Your camper will come home singing songs that you sang when you were a kid. For once, you can be cool because you know the words to Old Mother Leary instead of the newest classic from 50 Cent! Watch your campers wear their Kennolyn Green shirts with real pride. One of the strongest traditions that helps our campers and their families all year round is our insistence that behavior be "K-rated." K-rated means that words and actions fit within our code of conduct. It's hard to describe exactly but campers will learn to respect and respond to this fun way of enforcing community guidelines. We pride ourselves on being traditional but not grossly old fashioned. We attend conferences and educational events every year to learn about cutting edge programming ideas and we constantly listen to our campers as they tell us what's cool and what's not. We don't take it all on board but we find compromises where modern cultural norms can blend with our time honored and much loved traditions.

Exciting Activities

As any parent knows, it takes a lot for a child to turn off the TV or computer and go outside and play. And yet, campers return here year after year knowing that screen time will be replaced with face to face time. No need to log on and check messages from your online friends when your real friends are sitting across the campfire. There is no doubt, it takes outstanding programs and activities to satisfy children of the 21st century. We set ourselves apart from other camps by the depth and quality of our activity program. Come and see our magnificent ropes courses, the beautiful pool, the historical Equestrian Center, and so much more. From the traditional to the innovative our activities are fun, exciting, and offer social and skill development. A full list of our activities appears in the ACTIVITIES section of the website. If your camper wants to develop skills in one particular area, our KC Select program offers the perfect balance. Chose one of our KC Select sessions and combine our traditional camp program with in-depth, professional level instruction in a favorite activity. Click HERE for this year's KC Select options.

ACA Accredited and Diamond Certified

Kennolyn has long been committed to offering the very best camp experience for our campers. The best known and most widely recognized benchmark of high standards for summer camps is American Camp Association (ACA) Accreditation. To earn ACA Accreditation we undergo a thorough (up to 300 standards) review of our operation from staff qualifications and training to emergency management. The American Camp Association collaborates with experts from the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Red Cross, and other youth-serving agencies to assure that our current practices reflect the most up-to-date, research-based standards in camp operation. Kennolyn Camps and ACA form a partnership that promotes growth and fun in an environment committed to safety.

Commitment

Many people who come to Kennolyn, whether as campers, parents, or staff, develop a sense of pride and commitment that stays with them long after the summer is over. Our staff return year after year to continue to impact our campers. Our continued number one source of new campers is referrals from satisfied families that want to share their commitment to Kennolyn's program and ideals. But the biggest commitment comes from our campers who return year after year and continue feel the impact of camp long after they have grown up and started their own families. Consider this one example (from among the many we receive each year) from Suzie Jones of Wichita, Kansas:

I loved EVERYTHING about Kennolyn Camp. The activities, the counselors, the beach trips, the beautiful woods and the singing at campfire gatherings. Still crazy about those John Denver songs. But mostly, it was the friends I made each year, and those I saw every year that meant the most. My fondest memories are of Kennolyn Camp. I dream of being there surprisingly often. I can vividly imagine walking up the quiet, foggy path to set the table for breakfast, the smell of eggs and bacon filling the dining hall. Mmmmmmm. Life has changed so much. I am a pilot in the Air Force. I am married and have my own child, who will CERTAINLY go to Kennolyn when he is old enough. I live in Kansas, but my parents still live in Saratoga, just a quick jaunt from Kennolyn. I hope to someday come back.

It is people like Suzie who spread the message about Kennolyn and feel a deep and abiding affection for this very special place. Give your child the greatest gift of all: A summer full of fun, a childhood full of adventure, and a lifetime full of memories.
