KC Select

We offer campers the chance to try out of the ordinary activities and in-depth instruction in our exciting KC Select program. These professional level activities are available each session at Resident Camp and at some Day Camp sessions. KC Select offers you the best of both worlds; a strong, traditional camp program combined with specialized activities and adventures that are designed to excite! Surfing campers commit their three morning activity periods
on activity days to receive two hours of actual surfing instruction
in the water with professional instructors. Club-Ed provides our professional
instruction. They instruct our campers on how to learn to ride waves
and experience the healthy, exciting sport of surfing! Club-Ed's surfing
school is the most respected surfing school in the world. This popular
option has sold out the last three summers. Campers go to an unpopulated
beach, which makes it a safe place for our campers to learn away from
the Santa Cruz crowds. Wetsuit and surfboard rentals are included
in KC Select fee. Offered during Resident Camp grades 7 and higher. 
Trapeze 
Adventure
Offered during Resident Camp Session 1, this may be the most exciting of all Kennolyn activities. Adventure Campers participate in the following activities (subject to change) in their two week session: This program is organized and led by Evan Lloyd, husband of our long time Assistant Director, Allison Lloyd. It is important to note that Adventure Campers do not participate in Outpost with their regular cabin group and will miss some regular camp events while they are on their amazing adventures. back to top
KC Select Riding is a chance to spend more time at our beautiful equestrian center without committing to nothing but horses at our one or two week Equestrian program. KC Select Riders spend three hours at the barn with a 90-minute riding lesson, horsemanship classes, and special attention from our dedicated staff each activity day. This program is offered for riders advanced beginner through advanced. Campers will have an opportunity to ride both in the ring and on the trail as well as a real hands on look at horsemanship. Campers should bring their riding helmet, boots and breeches if they have them otherwise they will be provided by camp. KC Select Riding is available during Resident Camp Session 2. There is an additional Select Fee (see below for pricing). KC Select Equestrian
Camp. For campers entering 6th grade or older who want to concentrate
on riding and horses, this is the perfect solution. Equestrian Campers
spend most of their time on riding, vaulting, and horsemanship activities.
Each activity day is spent at the barn developing riding skills and
knowledge. This program focuses on English riding with an occasional
Western trail ride for fun. All Equestrian campers participate in an
overnight ride which includes a beautiful twilight trail ride, a campout
at our campsite by the creek, and an early morning ride back to camp.
Advanced Beginner through Advanced riders are welcome at Equestrian
Camp and they will be divided into instructional groups of 4-5 riders
of similar ability. Equestrian campers have a change of pace by participating
in other Resident Camp activities as well: afternoon free swim in the
pool, two mornings of Free Choice activities, Evening Activities, Beach
Day, and a trip to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Campers grades 5
and higher with riding levels advanced beginner through advanced are
eligible. Campers should bring their riding helmet, boots and breeches
if they have them otherwise they will be provided by camp. Additional
Select Fee $550. All riding activities take place at our historic Equestrian
Center on the Hilltop Hacienda property. A shuttle bus takes campers
on the 5 minute ride between our two properties. 
Fencing is another activity that is available as a regular activity
or as part of KC Select. Using our extensive network of fencing coaches we have
developed a training program suited for any camper ready to learn more than the
basics. This program will prepare campers for junior competition or help move those
already competing to the next level. Fencing Master for this program is Eric Momberg,
Prevost of the High Desert Fencing Alliance in Reno Nevada (and a long time Kennolyn
staff member.) Eric coaches at all levels and his students regularly compete in
national and international events. We will focus on the foil as our weapon of
choice but our international fencing staff will support Eric with opportunities
for the campers to try other weapons. Campers in the fencing select program will
have special equipment reserved for their use. All fencing levels welcome but please
let us know if your camper already has extensive fencing experience. Offered during
Resident Camp Session 3 for grades 3 and higher.Please see below for the additional Select Fee.
Soccer is a recreational KC Select activity that is offered during Resident Camp Session 3. We lease a beautiful soccer field at a local park and shuttle the campers to the field each activity day morning. The emphasis is on coaching and drills with scrimmages to enhance the skill development opportunities. All levels of players are welcome. Additional Select Fee $220.

Riding We know that all of our riding options are a little confusing
so we'll try and explain the difference here. Horseback Riding is available to
all Resident Campers and the cost is included in the camp tuition. They simply
need to choose the appropriate level of riding when they sign up for activities.
In all cases, riding chosen by this method is a 2 period activity and therefore
counts as two activity choices. All levels are welcome and our staff will assign
campers to the ideal horse and instructor depending on their experience and comfort
level.
