year of college.
Dates: June 16 – August 22, 8am-5pm, M-F
Salary for 2008: minimum $280 base weekly salary
+ bonuses
Day Camp Description
Kennolyn has been family owned since 1946 on 300 acres of redwoods
overlooking Monterey Bay. Day Camp offers a wide variety of pre-programmed
activities for grades K-8 with the convenience of transportation
from Santa Cruz, Monterey, and Santa Clara counties. Campers are
assigned to Family Groups of approximately the same age and grade
and travel to each activity under the supervision of two group counselors.
Activities run four days a week with Free Choice activities Friday
morning, followed by an event that includes the entire camp. Horseback
riding (grades 2-7) is optional and is available for an additional
fee. Two-week campers may also go on the Outpost Overnight campout.
All sessions have a Family Night BBQ so parents can meet the staff
and see the fun for themselves
Job Title: Group Counselors
One male and one female Group Counselor work together to travel
with and care for a group of 12-20 boys and girls, grades K-8. Groups
are organized by grade and stay together for the six activity period
day Monday through Thursday. Friday morning, campers choose their
own activities and travel on their own leaving their counselors
to specialize in one or more activities. Friday afternoon, Group
Counselors often return to guide their group through an all-camp
event. Group Counselors usually teach ball sports, riflery, archery,
animal care, and nature hikes. They lead these activities on their
own and/or with a fellow Group Counselor. They assist Activity Counselors
at the ropes course, crafts, ceramics, vaulting, fencing, tennis,
swimming, and dance. Duties include identifying and responding to
camper's needs, supervising personal hygiene, and ensuring camper
safety at all times.
Job Title: Activity Counselors
Positions available for riding, vaulting, swimming, lifeguard, tennis,
high ropes, climbing, crafts, and ceramics. Activity Counselors
specialize in one or more activities and lead it on their own or
with the assistance of the Group Counselor. They do this for six
different grade groups Monday – Thursday and do the same Friday
morning although campers choose activities on their own. Activity
Counselors are given the opportunity to be zany and creative Friday
afternoons during an all-camp event, which they help operate. Duties
include setting goals for campers, identifying and responding to
camper's needs, and ensuring camper safety at all times.
Job Title: Ropes Course Coordinator
16-20 campers, organized by grade, come together to the ropes course
as a group. The ropes course includes a low ropes course for the
younger campers, a climbing wall, and two high ropes courses. The
Ropes Course Coordinator oversees each course with the assistance of
three ropes course staff (all courses do not operate simultaneously).
The collective ropes course staff facilitates each group of campers
and their two counselors and counselor assistants. Preferred qualifications:
experience operating ropes courses or in-depth knowledge of climbing
and rescue techniques, strong communication skills, experience working
in a child-oriented business, enthusiastic self starter, organized,
thorough, conscientious. Season bonus available depending on experience. Working
dates for this specific position are 8am-5pm, Monday – Friday,
June 16 – August 22.
Job Title: Office Coordinator
The Office Coordinator oversees and assures the smooth daily operation
of a small but busy office. The office team includes the Day Camp
Director, Program Director, and Head Counselor. Duties include:
answering phones, maintaining filing systems, data entry, managing
transportation and bus company communication, and maintaining routine
communication with families through email and newsletters. Qualifications:
College level course work or equivalent, experience in a small-team,
high activity, tobacco-free office, strong organization and communication
skills, experience working in a child-oriented business preferred
(camp, outdoor education, school, etc.), enthusiastic self-starter,
organized, adaptable, thorough, conscientious, good character. Working
dates and hours: June 16 – August 30, Monday – Friday,
full-time 8am-5pm, with one hour lunch break. This position is not
required to participate in Family BBQs and Outpost Overnights. Pay
starts at $10/hr.
Information that is applicable to all Day Camp positions (except
Office):
Qualifications:
• Be at least 18 years old
• Desire and ability to work with children outdoors
• Good character, integrity, and adaptability
• Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience, and self-control
• Teach one or more activities: climbing, ropes course, horseback
riding, vaulting, fencing, life guarding, swimming lessons, board
diving, ball sports, outdoor adventure/nature, riflery, archery,
animal care, dance, crafts and pottery.
• Teach or assist activities on six Wednesday night parent
BBQs held from 4:30-8pm
• Assist on three Thursday overnight camping trips per summer
($25 stipend given each time).
• May be required to work as bus escorts for up to two weeks
in the summer. $50 stipend awarded for this duty.
Working dates: From 6/16-8/22 (Mon-Fri 8am-5pm; Wed 8am-8pm for
Family BBQ; Thurs Overnight Outpost during two week sessions; Fri 8am-3pm)
Starting pay: $280 per week is starting counselor pay
