About Kennolyn's Day Camp
|
Camp Philosophy
Spending the day away from home on our beautiful 240 acre camp property, engaging in exciting activities with friends and counselors, and making the most of every day is the essence of Day Camp. We welcome children from all over the area to our beautiful site in the redwood forests of the Santa Cruz mountains. We believe that camp is an important part of a child's education. A couple of weeks spent out of doors focusing on social interaction, skill development, and play can give a child the tools needed to succeed in other social and educational settings. We offer a wide range of daily activates from crafts to sports and swimming to hiking. In activities of a competitive nature, a spirit of friendly competition is emphasized rather than winning, so campers of all abilities can participate freely. In every team or individual sport and in every activity, we stress effort, improvement, achievement and above all fun! back to top Typical Day
Camp begins each morning when the kids board the bus. Along the road to Kennolyn, they sing camp songs and each bus creates a unique cheer for a future competition. Once the bus arrives at Kennolyn, the campers are met by their two assigned counselors and the rest of their group, to discuss the events of the upcoming day. The two counselors remain with the group at all times throughout the day and are assisted by our Counselors in Training. As part of each day, the campers also visit "activity" counselors who specialize in one activity; including horseback riding, art, fencing, ropes course, swimming instruction, and tennis. We start the day with "Opening Circle", which includes a flag raising ceremony, announcements, and something fun to get us ready for a busy day. Counselors review activity choices the first day and ask campers to make a choice for the session. For electives like swimming, guard start, tennis, and baby-sitting, parents can submit the online "request form" to ensure that their child receives the lesson. Otherwise, counselors rely on the child to make their preference known between these elective lessons and what the group would otherwise do. back to top Facilities
Our Day Camp facilities include 240 acres of redwood forest for campers
to hike and learn about nature. On site you will find a fully equipped

Food ServiceKennolyn's Day Camp offers a lunch program! You can sign up for lunches online by signing into (or creating) an online account. Kennolyn's NEW summer lunch menu will be updated and posted shortly. Lunch is served to our campers at 12pm - 1pm each day. During a two week session, a lunch is provided for all campers on the last day of camp. This all camp meal is provided by our own food service staff and replaces the usual Day Camp lunch for that day. The charge for lunches is $30 for a one week session and $55 for a two week session. In addition we also provide snacks at 10:15am for campers in Kindergarten, First and Second grade at no additional charge. Ice water is available all day and campers are encouraged to drink water regularly and carry a water bottle as much as possible. back to top HealthLocated in the heart of camp is the Health Cottage. Staffed with a full time registered nurse or EMT, the Health Cottage is a comfortable place where campers receive professional medical care and treatment and can take a break from normal camp life when deemed necessary. We are proud of the way our professional nursing staff helps all sick campers feel comfortable and the way our facility represents a commitment to the health and safety of the entire Kennolyn family. In addition to the Day Camp nurse Kennolyn also has two full time registered nurses on site at the Resident Camp only four minutes away. If it were necessary to seek medical attention, Dominican Hospital is located just fifteen minutes from camp. If an incident occurs at Day Camp, our primary goal is to take care of any immediate emergency care and then contact the camper's parents, guardian, or emergency contact. We will continue to make health decisions for your camper until we reach one of the people listed as contacts. This is why it is vital that we have up to date contact information for these contacts. Although the camp environment does expose children to healthy risk taking, you can be comforted by the thought that our safety record is excellent and we suffer very few injuries that require medical attention. back to top Special Events
Although Kennolyn runs on a regular activity schedule, we always find time to hold special events. Special events can last one hour or a full day, and they involve a wide variety of activities. Some of our special events include: Camper Birthdays, Parent BBQ Night, 4th of July, Gold Rush Day, Pirate Day. Please see this years summer schedule to find out what activities will be available during your preferred session at camp. back to top BirthdaysWe try to make a camper feel special on their birthday.
At the end of lunch, the camper is presented with a cake while
the entire group and counselor sings "Happy Birthday". Camp is a great place to
celebrate a birthday! |
